‘People Respect Indians’: Anupam Kher Credits PM Modi For India’s Global Rise

Actor Anupam Kher has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has played a major role in changing India’s image on the international stage.

Kher made the remarks while touring North America and congratulated PM Modi on completing 25 years in public life, from his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister to his years as Prime Minister.

The actor, who recently staged a performance in Canada and is currently travelling across the United States, said his experiences abroad had helped him notice the change in perceptions about Indians.

“People respect Indians like nobody’s business,” he said.

Kher recalled his earlier trips to North America and said Indians once received less recognition than they do today.

“Now they say, Oh, you come from PM Modi’s country, which is fantastic,” he said.

Kher described PM Modi as an unusual political leader who, in his view, has promoted the idea of public service while encouraging ordinary people to pursue their goals.

The actor said PM Modi’s own rise from a modest background demonstrated how determination, hard work and honesty can help people overcome difficult circumstances. He connected PM Modi’s journey with his own childhood experiences.

Kher recalled growing up in a small town while his father worked as a clerk.

The actor highlighted changes he associated with India’s development under PM Modi, including improvements in roads, railways and public infrastructure. He specifically mentioned the expansion of road networks, railway projects and the Atal Tunnel as examples of infrastructure progress.

Kher further praised PM Modi’s interactions with Indian athletes, saying the Prime Minister congratulated winners and encouraged competitors following defeats. He defended PM Modi’s humble beginnings and criticised attempts to ridicule his past as a tea seller.
