Nation Bids Tearful Farewell To Asha Bhosle; Laid To Rest With State Honours

Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle was laid to rest with full state honours in Mumbai on Monday. The final rites were performed at the Shivaji Park Crematorium.

Her mortal remains were taken from her residence in Lower Parel to the cremation ground, draped in the national flag as a mark of respect.

Several prominent figures from the film, music and political spheres attended to pay their last respects. Among them were Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Vivek Oberoi, singers Anup Jalota and Shaan, and filmmaker Ramesh Sippy.

Political leaders including Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray also paid homage.

A ceremonial guard of honour was accorded at her residence earlier in the day.

Veteran actor Helen and actor Poonam Dhillon visited to offer condolences, with Dhillon seen visibly emotional. Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, also broke down while interacting with visitors.

Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday after being admitted to Breach Candy Hospital a day earlier. The news was confirmed by Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar.

One of the most influential voices in Indian music, she was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. Her legacy continues through a vast repertoire of timeless songs.
