Naseeruddin Shah Uses Filmfare Awards as Washroom Door Handles, Says “I Don’t Find Value in These Trophies”

Naseeruddin Shah one of the most well-known actors in the business, has received numerous honours for his work. The seasoned actor admitted in a recent interview that he doesn’t take these honours seriously. The actor claimed he uses them as door handles for his restrooms.

Naseeruddin Shah dismisses awards as products of industry lobbying

In recognition of his contributions in Paar, Sparsh, and Iqbaal, Naseeruddin Shah has received three national awards. In addition, he received three Filmfare Awards for his roles in Masoom, Chakra, and Akrosh. The actor revealed in a recent interview that he does not take accolades seriously and believes they are the result of lobbying in the industry.

In a recent interview with The Lallantop, the actor faced questions regarding his opinions on awards and whether the claims about him using them as door handles in his home were true. The actor said while laughing “Any actor who has dedicated their entire life to playing a character is a good actor. How is it fair if you simply choose one person from the group and declare them to be the year’s best actor? I don’t take pride in their accolades. Even though I recently earned two prizes, I did not go pick them up. So, I made the decision to place these medals there when I built a farmhouse. Since the handles are made from Filmfare awards, anyone using the loo will receive two awards each.”

The Ishqiya actor further asserted that accolades are only the outcome of lobbying. He claimed “I don’t think these prizes are worth anything. I was pleased when I first received them. But after that, medals began to accumulate all around me. I eventually realised that these awards are the consequence of lobbying. These honors are bestowed upon one without necessarily reflecting merit, so I began to leave them behind.”

He further added “when I later earned the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, it brought back memories of my late father, who used to worry about my career and say things like, “If you do this useless work, you will become a fool. So, when I went to Rashtrapati Bhavan to collect the awards, I looked up and asked my dad if he was seeing all this… He was… and I am sure he was happy… I was happy to receive those awards. But I can’t stand these competitive awards.”
