Nagarjuna’s iconic crime actioner “Shiva” returned to screens in 4K, 36 years after its original release, captivating movie buffs once again.
Commemorating the milestone, Nagarjuna expressed his awe at the cosmic timing of the re-release. He noted that the film feels untouched by time.
On his official X handle (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Shiva released on October 5th, 1989! Now 36 years, 40 days later, Shiva 4K feels untouched by time. As life brings me back to where it all began, I can only smile at the cosmic poetry of it all.”
He revealed that “Shiva” never felt like a film he made but rather a gift from the stars.
“A piece of stardust that chose us, shaped us, and changed Indian cinema forever,” he added.
Calling it a full-circle moment, Nagarjuna reflected, “It’s rare in life when you return to a moment that defined you, rarer still when that moment shines brighter than time.” Watching the film in 4K, he felt it retained its timeless essence.
He elaborated, “It is hard to say if it was made in the past or summoned from the future. Its costumes, sound, frames, and spirit feel as relevant now as they did then. Shiva fell from the stars, and stardust never fades. Re-releasing Shiva today feels like holding that stardust once more and offering it to a new world. Life comes full circle. Thank you for walking this circle of life with Shiva and me.”
The re-release also marked the reunion of Nagarjuna with filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma.
At the trailer launch, RGV acknowledged the actor’s pivotal role in his career, saying, “I was born biologically by my parents, but my true birth as a filmmaker was given by Nagarjuna.”
The 4K version of “Shiva” not only revives a classic for longtime fans but also introduces the cinematic gem to a new generation.
Nagarjuna’s reflections and the film’s enduring impact underscore how certain creations transcend time, continuing to inspire audiences decades later.
