Singer and actress Mary Millben has voiced strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic approach, urging the United States to recalibrate its stance towards India and adopt a tone rooted in respect, alliance and shared democratic values.
Millben said Prime Minister Modi’s restraint and composure amid recent strains in US–India relations had enhanced his stature on the global stage.
While acknowledging a personal rapport between President Donald Trump and the Indian Prime Minister, she argued that genuine friendship requires self-reflection and course correction.
Expressing disapproval of what she described as hostile rhetoric from the US administration towards India, Millben said she had consistently encouraged President Trump to treat India as a trusted ally.
She stressed that mutual respect and strategic cooperation should guide bilateral ties between the world’s oldest and largest democracies.
She underlined that India’s response to economic and trade pressures reflected strategic maturity. According to Millben, Prime Minister Modi responded to tariff threats by diversifying partnerships and strengthening ties beyond Washington, demonstrating resolve without confrontation.
Millben highlighted India’s expanding engagement with major global players, including the European Union, describing the India–EU trade agreement as a historic milestone. She said the pact reaffirmed the principles of sovereignty, security and democratic values in global trade.
She also noted that India’s growing ties with countries such as Russia, China and European leadership signalled a balanced and forward-looking foreign policy. Even moments of silence, she observed, reflected strength and confidence in leadership.
Marking 20 years of association with the American presidency, Millben reflected on her experience serving and performing for multiple US administrations.
She said this exposure shaped her understanding of global leadership and the importance of strong alliances.
Addressing India directly, Millben reaffirmed America’s friendship, while appealing to President Trump to apologise, restore trust with India and recognise the contribution of the Indian-American community. She described such a pivot as an expression of strength rather than weakness.
India and the United States continue to deepen cooperation in defence, technology and people-to-people ties, even as they navigate trade differences and shifting geopolitical realities.
