Mamta Kulkarni Recalls Aamir Khan Making Tea In Her Kitchen During ‘Baazi’ Shoot

Former actress Mamta Kulkarni has shared fond memories from the 1990s film industry, highlighting the warmth and camaraderie that defined the era.

Speaking to a media body, she recalled how superstar Aamir Khan would often visit her home during the shoot of Baazi, change in her bedroom due to the absence of vanity vans, and even make tea in her kitchen after pack-up.

Kulkarni also addressed music composer AR Rahman’s remarks about Bollywood being communal.

She said, “I feel extremely fortunate that I worked in the 1990s. We never looked at each other’s religion. I worked with Aamir Khan, I worked with Shah Rukh Khan… Honestly, what should I even say now?”

She elaborated on the informal working practices of the time. “Vanity vans were not common. Aamir Khan would come to my house, change in my bedroom, and after packing up, make tea in my kitchen. We would enter each other’s homes, get ready, and then head straight to the shoot. It was a very different era.”

Mamta further recalled overseas tours with Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, emphasising the sense of togetherness beyond film sets.

“On world tours, we would sit in each other’s homes. Someone would make tea, someone else would cook. We never thought about such things. Now, everything has truly stopped. An artist is an artist. Please don’t bring discrimination here,” she said.

Touching upon the changing dynamics of the music industry, Kulkarni added that creative relevance evolves. “And when you ask about AR Rahman, everything has its time. Maybe your kind of music is no longer relevant. Today, many very good singers are sitting at home without work,” she concluded.
