Kiku Sharda To Temporarily Exit ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ For Reality TV

Kiku Sharda, one of the key entertainers on ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’, is all set to take a temporary break from filming the Netflix series.

The actor has signed on for the upcoming confinement-based reality show ‘Rise & Fall’, which begins production this week on Amazon MX Player.

This move creates an interesting dynamic, as he joins a show hosted on Amazon MX Player — a direct competitor to Netflix, which streams the Kapil Sharma-led comedy series..

According to a production source, Sharda will not be able to shoot for the Kapil show while he remains inside the house of ‘Rise & Fall’, which follows a format similar to ‘Bigg Boss’.

Inside the Show

The reality series will be hosted by entrepreneur and media personality Ashneer Grover, known for his stint on ‘Shark Tank India’.

Grover is reportedly taking a hands-on approach, not just anchoring the show but also overseeing its casting decisions.

Sources suggest he rejected at least five names from the initial shortlist, reportedly because they lacked strategic depth or were not dynamic enough for the show’s format.

Unlike most reality shows that rely on celebrity fame, ‘Rise & Fall’ focuses on casting individuals who can bring sharpness, conflict, and planning into the game.

Grover reportedly insisted on selecting personalities who would ‘shake things up’ and steer clear of safe, predictable content.

What This Means for Kapil’s Show?

Kiku’s temporary departure will likely impact ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’, as he plays multiple popular characters and contributes significantly to the comic ensemble.

However, the production team plans to continue filming during his stint on ‘Rise & Fall’, thanks to the show’s episodic format and regularly rotating guests.

With this move, the rivalry between streaming platforms intensifies, as one of Netflix India’s key comedy stars joins a major Amazon-backed reality venture.

It reflects a growing trend of crossover participation by mainstream actors between scripted and unscripted formats on OTT platforms.

‘Rise & Fall’ will begin streaming soon, with Kiku Sharda confirmed as one of the early contestants.

This detour into reality TV puts him under a new kind of spotlight and may either add a fresh dimension to his career or challenge his well-established comic identity
