The festival’s origins trace back to Indian freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who played a key role in popularizing Ganeshotsav during India’s struggle for independence. Tilak’s vision was to shift the celebration from private homes to public spaces, fostering unity and supporting the freedom movement.
Bollywood films, including Satya, Agneepath (starring Hrithik Roshan), and Don (starring Shah Rukh Khan), have depicted Ganesh Chaturthi, highlighting its significance in Indian cinema.
During the festival, many in the film fraternity welcome Lord Ganpati into their homes and later perform Visarjan to bid farewell, vowing to welcome him again the following year.
On the professional front, Kartik Aaryan’s latest role was in Chandu Champion, a biopic about Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medalist who won an individual gold medal at the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Heidelberg, Germany.
