Karan Johar Reveals Why He Never Worked With Irrfan Khan, Says “I Didn’t Want To Be The Blotch In His Beautiful Career Graph”

One of the most prominent Hindi film directors, Karan Johar recently shared why he never offered the late Irrfan Khan a role in a movie. The director said he didn’t want to be the one to give an actor like Irfan an average mainstream movie in an interview with journalist-author Shubhra Gupta for her book titled Irrfan: A Life in Movies.

Karan talking about Irrfan Khan

Karan stated, “Irrfan was far more powerful than anything I could have ever given him”. I never came up with a script, a movie, a thinking, or an idea that would call for Irrfan Khan to be present in the kind of significant way that he was. That is the reason I have never worked with Irrfan on a movie; I didn’t want to be the one to give him an unpleasant mainstream movie. “I didn’t want to be the blotch in his beautiful career graph, said Karan as quoted in the book.

The filmmaker recalls telling “Maqbool” director Vishal Bhardwaj that he was amazed by Irrfan’s performance. “Because I don’t believe any other actor possesses the range of qualities that Irrfan brought to the table, including charisma, cinematic intellect, presence, and performance in equal measure. Other actors can fit into several different categories. Irrfan Khan cannot be generalized or put into a box. It’s just that he was so unique “.

Ironically, Karan Johar received at least “five scripts” following Irrfan’s passing that he thought would have been ideal for the Paan Singh Tomar star.

One of the two things the 51-year-old director regrets most in life is that he didn’t direct Sridevi and Irrfan. He recalled how he and his friend and fellow filmmaker Zoya Akhtar agreed that “there was no other actor like Irrfan Khan.”
