Justin Bieber.
Justin Bieber: The musician, 28, has been a household name since being discovered singing on YouTube by music executive Scooter Braun as a young teenager, and his face has been stamped across clothing pretty much ever since. However Justin has taken issue with a new collection of merchandise feature his image currently appearing in H&M.
“I didn’t approve any of the merch collection that they put up at H&M… all without my permission and approval. SMH I wouldn’t buy it if I were you,” he wrote in the first slide.
The singer claims the merchandise is “all without my permission and approval” and warned fans, “I wouldn’t buy it if I were you.”
Justin aired his thoughts on the matter with a public statement on Instagram, taking to his stories on Monday to make the claim.
“The H&M merch they made of me is trash and I didn’t approve it, don’t buy it”, he added.
Clothing chain H&M insist they followed the usual procedure for the new collection. Company has stores across the world including in the United States and United Kingdom.
“As with all other licensed products and partnerships, H&M followed proper approval procedures”, a spokesperson said to media.
It appears the collection in question was based in US stores and featured hoodies and other clothing with Justin’s face and lyrics from his song ‘Ghost.’
Despite earlier availability, no Justin Bieber merchandise was available to buy on the US H&M online store at the time of writing.
Clothes in the H&M collection include sweatshirts, T-shirts and hoodies featuring Bieber’s likeness, lyrics and branding. The retailer has previously sold Bieber’s concert tour merchandise a few times, going back several years.
H&M has struggled with weak sales lately as the retailer tries to cope with high inflation and shaky consumer demand. Management aims to double sales by 2030.
