The excitement is building as the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) gears up for its 15th edition, likely to take place from 15 to 25 August, with the announcement of nominations across various categories, setting the stage for a highly anticipated celebration of Indian cinema’s diversity and excellence.
In the Best Film category, movies like ’12th Fail’, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, ‘Chandu Champion’, ‘Dunki’, ‘Jawan’, ‘Maharaja’ (Tamil), ‘Premalu’ (Malayalam), and ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ are competing for the top honors.
The Best Actor category boasts a stellar lineup including Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, Fahadh Faasil, Kartik Aaryan, Mammootty, Mithun Chakraborty, Sparsh Shrivastava, Vicky Kaushal, and Vikrant Massey.
Nominees for Best Actress feature Alia Bhatt, Alizeh Agnihotri, Beena R Chandran, Jyothika, Nitanshi Goel, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pratibha Ranta, Preeti Panigrahi, Sanya Malhotra, and Swathi Reddy, highlighting the diversity and talent in the industry.
Meanwhile, in the Best Director category, luminaries such as Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan, Karan Johar, Nithilan Saminathan, Rahul Sadasivan, Rajkumar Hirani, and Vidhu Vinod Chopra are vying for recognition.
The Best OTT Actors and Actresses category however showcases Arjun Mathur, Babil Khan, Gulshan Devaiah, Jitendra Kumar, Naveen Chandra, R Madhavan, Roshan Mathew, Suvinder Vicky, Harleen Sethi, Karishma Tanna, Neena Gupta, Nimisha Sajayan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Sobhita Dhulipala, reflecting the growing influence of digital platforms in Indian entertainment.
Supported by the Victorian Government in Australia, IFFM serves as a platform for cultural exchange and celebrates the richness of Indian cinema on an international stage.
The winners of the prestigious IFFM 2024 Awards will be unveiled during the festival’s gala night on 16 August at the iconic Palais Theatre in Melbourne, promising a memorable evening honoring the best in Indian cinema.
