The makers of Jab Khuli Kitaab unveiled its trailer on Monday, presenting a tender yet candid portrait of mature love.
The film explores emotional truth within a long-standing marriage. Actress Dimple Kapadia, who essays the role of Anusuya, described the project as deeply fulfilling.
Dimple stated that the film satisfied every creative aspiration she holds dear. She praised the compelling narrative, the opportunity to collaborate with Pankaj Kapur, and the experience of working under the direction of Saurabh Shukla.
She also highlighted the serene mountain backdrop, which infused the production with a distinct spiritual energy.
Speaking about her character, Dimple said Anusuya carries remarkable emotional depth.
She noted that the character’s defining trait is her commitment to honesty rather than rebellion.
Anusuya does not seek to dismantle her marriage; she seeks transparency within it.
Dimple emphasised that such honesty after five decades together demands profound courage. She found it rewarding to portray such layered nuance.
Written and directed by Saurabh Shukla, the film examines the emotional intricacies of a 50-year marriage unsettled by a long-suppressed truth.
The narrative centres on Gopal and Anusuya, a couple bound by shared routines, memories and quiet companionship.
Their tranquil existence fractures when Anusuya discloses a buried secret, shaking the foundations of their relationship.
Gopal struggles with anguish and wounded pride. He ultimately decides to seek a divorce.
Pankaj Kapur described the film as rare in its focus on later-life romance.
He commended Shukla’s vision for portraying ageing love with sincerity, warmth and humour.
He observed that love does not diminish with time; it transforms, deepens, complicates and heals.
The story introduces a young lawyer, portrayed by Aparshakti Khurana. His character becomes an unexpected catalyst.
Through him, long-silenced emotions resurface. Generational contrasts inject moments of levity alongside poignant revelations.
Aparshakti remarked that the film treats forgiveness and connection with both lightness and gravity.
The trailer presents a sensitive exploration of affection tested by time. Jab Khuli Kitaab will premiere exclusively on ZEE5 on March 6.
