BookMyShow Removes Kunal Kamra’s Content After Shiv Sena Complaint

In a major blow to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, BookMyShow has removed all content related to him from its platform.

The portal has also delisted Kamra from its list of featured artists.

The move follows a complaint by Shiv Sena youth leader and social media chief Rahool N Kanal. He urged BookMyShow not to provide a platform to Kamra, citing his ‘divisive’ rhetoric.

On Saturday, Kanal thanked Big Tree Entertainment Pvt Ltd, which owns BookMyShow, for acting on his request.

“Thank you for taking him out of the sale and promotion listing. I appreciate even removing him from the search history,” Kanal said in a letter.

Kanal stated that Mumbai respects all art forms but not those pushing personal agendas. He praised the company for upholding its values and supporting a safe customer experience.

In his earlier letter dated April 2, Kanal said that BookMyShow had previously promoted Kamra’s shows. He accused the comedian of defaming top political leaders and running a vilification campaign.

Kanal alleged that Kamra’s provocative remarks go beyond satire and threaten public order. He warned that such content could hurt public sentiment and disturb social harmony in Mumbai.

The complaint came amid controversy over Kamra referring to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a ‘traitor’ during a show. Three cases have been filed against Kamra.

Though the Madras High Court granted Kamra temporary protection from arrest, he has skipped three summons from the Mumbai Police. Authorities are recording statements from crew members and have assured Kamra of safety during questioning.
