Authorities at the Dubai International Airport detained singer and social media influencer Abdu Rozik on Saturday morning over allegations of theft.
The Bigg Boss 16 contestant was taken into custody around 5 AM, shortly after arriving from Montenegro.
A representative from the company associated with Abdu confirmed the incident to Khaleej Times, stating, “All we can say is that we are aware he has been taken into custody on allegations of theft.”
Dubai authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
Originally from Tajikistan, Abdu Rozik has been residing in Dubai for several years and holds a UAE Golden Visa.
The 21-year-old has become one of the most recognisable young celebrities in the UAE.
Diagnosed with dwarfism in childhood, Abdu stands at 3 feet and 1 inch tall.
Abdu began his professional journey in 2019 under the mentorship of Tajikistani rapper and blogger Baron (Behruz). He gained popularity through his performances in Tajikistani songs like ‘Ohi Dili Zor’, ‘Chaki Chaki Boron’, and ‘Modar’.
In 2021, he went viral after uploading a video of himself singing Arijit Singh’s Hindi song ‘Enna Sona’.
A year later, he performed ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ at the 22nd IIFA Awards in Abu Dhabi.
Abdu reached widespread fame through his appearance on the Indian reality show Bigg Boss 16. He recently participated in Laughter Chefs Season 2 and paired up with YouTuber Elvish Yadav.
Last year, India’s Enforcement Directorate questioned Abdu in connection with a money laundering probe involving a hospitality firm.
However, officials did not name him as an accused in the investigation.
