After nearly three weeks of cryptic social media posts, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan broke his silence on Sunday morning with a powerful tribute to the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Sharing an emotional message on X (formerly Twitter), the 82-year-old actor honoured the Indian Army and mourned the loss of 26 civilians, including tourists and a Nepalese national, killed by terrorists in Kashmir.
Bachchan described the tragic incident through the eyes of a grieving woman who watched her husband’s execution.
As she begged the attacker to spare her husband’s life, he told her to live and tell the world.
Reflecting on this moment, Bachchan invoked a line from his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poetry: “I carry the ashes of the funeral pyre in my hands, yet the world asks me for sindoor.”
He concluded with a resolute declaration: “And ‘.’ gave her the sindoor!!! OPERATION SINDOOR!!!”
Bachchan’s message, his first substantive post since April 22, came after weeks of silence punctuated only by cryptic, black images with numerical captions.
His tribute joined a growing chorus of voices from the Indian film industry.
Prominent actors such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Aamir Khan have also publicly condemned the terror attack and praised India’s precision strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, conducted on May 7 under Operation Sindoor.
On Saturday, just hours before Bachchan’s post, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement after high-level military talks.
Despite the agreement, tensions remain high following Pakistan’s previous ceasefire violations.
Bachchan’s emotional salute — “Jai Hind. Jai Hind ki Sena. You shall never stop; you shall never turn back; you shall never bow down. Path of Fire!” — reflects the national sentiment of resilience and unity in the face of tragedy.
