Abhishek Bachchan is finally doing great in his career. Not that he wasn’t a good actor but the giant career graph of megastar Amitabh Bachchan overshadowed him, and of course, destiny didn’t play well for him. But at a time when he has multiple movies on his plate, he is entering into politics, at least sources say so.
If sources are to be believed, Junior B will be joining Samajwadi Party, the party his mother, Jaya Bachchan, currently belongs to. It is said that he would contest from Allahabad in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Notably, Allahabad happens to be his father Amitabh Bachchan’s birthplace and the place from where he contested elections in the year 1984 for Indian National Congress.
Big B did it for his family friend and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi but he did quit politics in 1987 after allegations of his involvement in the Bofors scandal. He then stated that he joined politics emotionally but found that there’s no space for emotions in politics.
Another big coincidence is that Rita Bahuguna Joshi is currently the MP of Prayagraj (formerly called Allahabad). The seat on which Amitabh defeated her father and former Chief Minister of UP, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna. Jaya Bachchan literally played a strong and emotional role in 1984 when she requested the people of the town as daughter-in-law to vote for her husband. Consequently, her husband won with 60% votes but as fate would have it, he couldn’t complete even one term. And now if Abhishek is contesting, he will have to face the sitting MP, the daughter of the leader whom his father defeated.
Nobody from Bachchans has stated anything on this subject yet, and nor has there been any official announcement from the party’s side. An old interview of the ‘Dhoom’ actor is floating on the internet when he straightaway said that he has no interest in joining politics even if his parents have been in the same and he would not join politics in the future.
If we see the trends, celebrities nowadays are doing what they earlier assumed they won’t do in their life. A recent example is Parineeti Chopra who once said she will not marry a politician and is now engaged with Raghav Chaddha. By the same law, the people of India may see Abhishek Bachchan as a politician anytime soon. The ‘Dasvi’ actor won many accolades for his role as a politician in the movie, but his real avatar as a leader is yet to happen, maybe very soon.
