Sensex and Nifty indices extended their winning streak to a third consecutive session on Friday, supported by sustained buying in auto and financial services stocks.
Information technology shares witnessed profit booking after their recent rally.
The Sensex gained 166.49 points, or 0.21 per cent, to settle at 78,094.64. The Nifty advanced 66.45 points, or 0.27 per cent, to close at 24,383.60.
Market experts said the positive trend remained intact despite cautious investor sentiment.
Analysts identified the 24,300 level as the Nifty’s immediate support, followed by the 24,200 zone. They said maintaining these levels would preserve the ongoing recovery, while a close below 24,200 could trigger fresh profit booking towards lower support levels.
Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and Jio Financial Services emerged as the top gainers on the Nifty, driven by sustained buying interest in financial stocks.
The broader market also ended firmly in positive territory. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices both rose 0.44 per cent.
Among sectoral indices, auto stocks outperformed the broader market and provided significant support to the benchmark indices.
FMCG shares also remained among the session’s strongest performers.
In contrast, the Nifty IT index underperformed and snapped its five-session winning streak as investors booked profits despite continued strength in global chip stocks.
Market experts said optimism persisted, although higher bond yields and concerns over possible interest rate hikes encouraged investors to book profits at elevated levels. They added that the sustainability of the recovery would depend on stronger corporate earnings and easing global risks.
As the earnings season progresses, investors will closely monitor whether profit growth expands across multiple sectors rather than remaining concentrated in a few industries.
