Stock Market Today: Sensex Gains 96 Points, Nifty Rises 20 Points At Open

Sensex and Nifty opened with marginal gains on Friday as investors remained cautious amid rising US Treasury yields and continued geopolitical uncertainty.

At 9:24 AM, the Sensex gained 96 points, or 0.13 per cent, to trade at 73,676, while the Nifty rose 20 points, or 0.09 per cent, to 23,084.

The broader market opened slightly higher, with the Nifty Midcap 100 gaining 0.03 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 rising 0.06 per cent.

Sectoral indices on the NSE traded mixed. IT, FMCG, consumer durables and healthcare stocks remained under pressure, with Nifty IT emerging as the biggest loser after falling 1.37 per cent. Nifty Realty gained 0.59 per cent to lead the advancing sectors.

Rising US Treasury yields continued to weigh on global markets.

The US 10-year Treasury yield moved above 5.20 per cent and remained near multi-year highs, increasing pressure on global financial conditions.

A stronger dollar put pressure on the Indian rupee and reduced the relative attractiveness of emerging-market equities, analysts said.

Geopolitical uncertainty added to investor caution, with unclear diplomatic progress between the US and Iran and continued concerns over energy supply routes.

Any escalation could, however, push crude oil prices higher and increase pressure on markets.

Nifty closed 1.64 per cent lower at 23,063, with support at 22,800-23,000 and resistance at 23,250-23,300. Bank Nifty fell 1.96 per cent to 55,438.

Asian markets were mixed, with Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hang Seng falling, while Nikkei and Kospi gained.

US markets ended mostly lower, with the Dow down 0.31 per cent.

On September 24, FIIs sold ₹5,027 crore of equities, while DIIs bought ₹4,301 crore.
