Stock Market Today: Sensex Ends 291 Points Higher, Nifty Closes Above 24,100

Indian equity markets ended Monday’s trading session on a positive note, supported by strong buying in information technology and pharmaceutical stocks.

Softer global crude oil prices further improved investor sentiment, helping benchmark indices extend their gains.

The BSE Sensex climbed 291.17 points, or 0.38 per cent, to settle at 77,094.07. The NSE Nifty also advanced 90 points, or 0.37 per cent, to close at 24,102.90.

Market participants remained encouraged by the continued decline in international crude oil prices, which eased concerns over inflation and reduced pressure on import costs.

Investors selectively accumulated technology and healthcare stocks throughout the session, providing steady support to the broader market.

Among the top performers on the Nifty were Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Cipla and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories.

Strong gains in these counters helped offset weakness in certain consumer-focused segments and contributed significantly to the market’s overall rise.

The broader market also remained firm. The Nifty MidCap index gained 0.34 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index rose 0.60 per cent, reflecting continued investor interest beyond large-cap stocks.

The performance indicated that buying activity remained widespread across market segments despite cautious global conditions.

Sector-wise, IT, Pharma and Healthcare emerged as the strongest performers of the day.

Investors favoured these sectors amid improving sentiment and expectations of stable earnings growth.

FMCG and Consumer Durables stocks faced selling pressure and ended as the session’s weakest performers.

Market experts noted that the Nifty continues to face immediate resistance near the 24,200 level.

A sustained move above this zone could strengthen bullish momentum and potentially push the index towards the 24,400 mark, which remains the next major upside target.

On the downside, analysts identified the 24,000–23,900 range as a crucial support zone. Holding above these levels would help maintain the market’s positive trend in the near term.

Analysts said easing oil prices and continued buying in defensive and technology stocks supported the rally.

Investors remain watchful of upcoming domestic and global economic developments that could influence market direction in the coming sessions.
