Stock Market Today: Nifty Ends 76 Points Lower, Sensex Falls 326 Points

Benchmark equity indices remained under pressure on Wednesday. The Nifty fell for the seventh consecutive session, while the Sensex declined for a fourth straight day amid weakness across global markets.

The Nifty dropped 76.60 points, or 0.32 per cent, to settle at 24,078.30. The Sensex shed 325.78 points, or 0.42 per cent, to close at 76,909.68. Wednesday’s fall marked the Nifty’s longest losing streak since September 2025.

Market experts said attention has now shifted to the psychologically important 24,000 support level. They noted that a close below 24,050 could raise the possibility of a test of 24,000 in the next session.

The 24,200-24,300 range could emerge as immediate resistance during any recovery.

Among Nifty stocks, Max Healthcare Institute, Coal India and Power Grid Corporation of India recorded the steepest losses.

The broader market also weakened. The Nifty MidCap index slipped 0.21 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index declined 0.51 per cent.

Sectoral performance remained uneven. The Nifty Chemical index was the biggest laggard, while the Nifty IT index outperformed other sectors.

Within the Sensex basket, HCL Technologies, Eternal, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Titan were notable gainers.

Power Grid Corporation, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, ITC and Hindustan Unilever featured among the major decliners.

Experts attributed the domestic weakness to losses in global markets. They said cautious sentiment continued to weigh on equities.

Although Q1 FY27 earnings largely surpassed expectations, analysts said future market performance would depend heavily on the stability of crude oil supply chains as temporary tailwinds fade.
