Stock Market Opening Bell: Sensex Jumps Nearly 1,000 Points, Nifty Tops 23,400

Indian share markets, Sensex and Nifty, witnessed a robust start to Friday’s trading session, driven by declining energy prices and encouraging signals from overseas markets.

Market sentiment improved after reports indicated progress in diplomatic discussions between the United States and Iran, easing concerns over potential geopolitical escalation.

The BSE Sensex jumped by nearly 1,000 points, marking an increase of 1.35 per cent and touching an intraday peak of 74,834. At the same time, the NSE Nifty advanced by roughly 300 points, or 1.26 per cent, to reach 23,455.

Investors accumulated stocks across the board, resulting in gains for every major sectoral index.

Realty shares led the rally, with the Nifty Realty index climbing 2.51 per cent, while automobile stocks followed closely with a rise of 1.79 per cent.

Banking counters also recorded healthy gains, as the Nifty PSU Bank index added 1.45 per cent and the Nifty Private Bank index moved up 1.29 per cent.

Strong performances were also seen in media, chemicals, consumer durables, oil and gas, and cement stocks.

Metal stocks remained in positive territory, with the Nifty Metal index gaining 0.92 per cent.

Consumer goods shares edged higher by 0.71 per cent. Pharmaceutical and healthcare stocks also posted gains of up to 0.86 per cent.

Analysts believe the short-term market outlook remains favourable. They cited supportive global trends, consistent domestic institutional investment and broader sector participation.

Technical indicators pointed to the emergence of an inverted hammer-style candlestick pattern. This suggested buying interest at lower levels despite selling pressure near higher ranges.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) stood at 37.86.

Analysts identified the 23,000–23,100 range as a crucial support zone, while resistance is expected between 23,600 and 23,650.

Energy prices moved lower in international markets, with US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropping around 3 per cent to nearly $85 per barrel. Brent crude also slipped 1.59 per cent to $88.94 per barrel.

Asian equities continued their upward momentum, led by a gain of more than 3 per cent in Japan’s Nikkei index. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 2 per cent, while South Korea’s KOSPI recorded a surge of over 8 per cent.

In the United States, Wall Street ended the previous session on a positive note. The Nasdaq climbed 2.54 per cent, while the S&P 500 advanced 1.75 per cent.
