Starlink Faces Widespread Internet Outage Affecting Thousands Of Users

Thousands of Starlink users experienced internet disruptions on Monday as Elon Musk’s satellite service went offline once again.

Outage-monitoring website Downdetector reported nearly 50,000 issues by 10:01 AM.

“Starlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating,” the company stated on its website, without specifying the cause of the disruption.

According to Downdetector, 59 per cent of users reported internet issues, 40 per cent faced a complete blackout, and 1 per cent experienced weak connectivity.

The outage affected users across the US, including Virginia, Louisiana, Indiana, and Washington state, and some users in Colombia also reported losing access.

Reports indicated that the service was interrupted for a few minutes for some users, while others experienced outages lasting over 20 minutes.

While Musk has not commented on the Monday outage, users turned to his social media platform X to express frustration.

“Starlink is down again. These outages are getting more frequent,” wrote one user, while another added, “Another Starlink outage AGAIN. Thought it was mine. Now I see everybody getting problems too.”

This is not the first recent disruption. In July, Starlink suffered a nearly three-hour global outage.

Additionally, last Thursday night, the service faced interruptions affecting users across North America, Europe, and parts of Asia.

Musk later apologised on X, saying the disruption ‘doesn’t happen again’.

Starlink delivers internet through a network of more than 6,750 low-earth orbit satellites and operates in 150 countries, including India.

In India, Starlink has received necessary clearances and trial bandwidth, with 17 ground station locations finalised to connect satellites with terrestrial fibre and data networks.

A full launch in the country is likely by the end of 2025.
