Staggering 2.5MN Senior Citizens Above 70 Enrol For Ayushman Card Scheme

In less than two months since its launch, the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card has achieved a major milestone, with enrolment reaching 25 lakh senior citizens.

The card offers free health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh for all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of their socio-economic status. Seniors from families already covered under Ayushman Bharat receive an additional top-up of up to Rs 5 lakh per year.

The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) provides free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh for eligible individuals. Following the expansion of this scheme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seniors above 70 years of age can now benefit from health insurance services. The expansion has seen massive interest, with nearly 25 lakh new beneficiaries joining in just two months.

The scheme’s primary aim is to enhance healthcare accessibility for poor and disadvantaged families, offering health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family.

Launched on September 23, 2018, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, PMJAY is the world’s largest health insurance scheme. It provides cashless treatment, covering medicines, doctor fees, treatment costs, and OT-ICU fees.

On Dhanvantri Jayanti, Prime Minister Modi further expanded the scheme, allocating Rs 3,437 crores to provide health coverage for citizens aged 70 and above. These individuals will receive the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, granting them access to comprehensive healthcare under the PMJAY scheme.

The Vay Vandana Card ensures that elderly citizens have exclusive access to free health treatment at hospitals. It is a universal card with no income limit, benefiting seniors from all socio-economic backgrounds. This initiative will also reduce out-of-pocket expenses for the elderly, providing significant financial relief.
