Indian benchmark indices traded firmly higher on Tuesday, with the Sensex rising more than 500 points and the Nifty gaining over 100 points as easing Iran-Israel tensions boosted investor sentiment.
The Nifty MidSmall Financial Services index rose by more than 1 per cent, while the Nifty Realty index also recorded gains exceeding 1 per cent.
Automobile shares attracted fresh buying interest, pushing the Nifty Auto index nearly 0.9 per cent higher.
Banking counters remained in demand as well, with both PSU Bank and Private Bank indices advancing by up to 0.8 per cent.
The broader market continued to outperform the headline benchmarks.
The Nifty Microcap 250 index gained more than 1 per cent. The Nifty Midcap 50, Midcap 100 and Midcap 150 indices also advanced. Their gains approached 1 per cent.
Investor confidence received an additional boost from easing market volatility.
The India VIX index dropped by more than 4 per cent, slipping to around the 16 mark.
Market participants pointed to softer crude oil prices as a supportive factor for domestic equities.
Brent crude fell below $94 per barrel, providing relief to an economy heavily reliant on imported energy.
Despite the positive sentiment, analysts warned that the geopolitical situation remains fluid and any renewed escalation could quickly affect global financial markets. They also observed that a recent US court decision blocking President Donald Trump’s proposed increase in H-1B visa fees could benefit Indian IT companies with significant exposure to the American market.
Most major Asian markets traded higher, reflecting the improved global mood. Japan’s Nikkei gained more than 1 per cent, while South Korea’s KOSPI jumped nearly 5 per cent.
US equities also ended the previous session on a positive note. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq recorded solid gains. Their performance helped sustain optimism across international markets.
