Sensex, Nifty Open Higher On Global Cues And Easing Tensions

Indian equity markets opened on a strong note on Thursday, with benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty advancing in early trade amid improved global sentiment and easing concerns over geopolitical tensions between Washington and Tehran.

The Sensex rose 566 points, or 0.73 per cent, to open at 78,677, while the Nifty gained 154 points, or 0.64 per cent, to begin the session at 24,385.

Buying was broad-based, with realty, media, consumer durables and financial stocks leading the gains in early trade.

In the broader markets, small-cap and mid-cap indices outperformed, with the Nifty Smallcap 100, Nifty Smallcap 250 and Nifty Midcap 100 rising by up to 1 per cent, indicating strong risk appetite among investors.

The positive momentum reflected sustained buying interest across segments beyond frontline stocks.

On the institutional side, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers to the tune of around Rs 666 crore on Wednesday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) turned net sellers with outflows of approximately Rs 569 crore.

This divergence highlighted mixed participation from key market players.

Crude oil prices remained largely stable in commodity trade, with Brent crude futures at $94.92 per barrel, down 0.03 per cent, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was at $91.52 per barrel, up 0.25 per cent.

Global markets also supported sentiment, with Asian indices trading firm and Wall Street closing higher overnight.

Japan’s Nikkei rose over 2 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and South Korea’s KOSPI gained more than 1 per cent each. In the US, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended higher, supported by improved risk appetite.

Analysts said markets could see intermittent volatility or consolidation ahead as investors track global developments and upcoming economic triggers, despite the recent upward momentum.
