The Nifty surged 399.75 points, or 1.78 per cent, to close at 22,912.40, while the Sensex jumped 1,372.06 points, or 1.89 per cent, to end at 74,068.45.
Gains were led by auto and banking stocks, with media stocks performing particularly strongly, pushing the Nifty Media index up by over 3 per cent.
Market analysts attributed the rally to early signs of a short-term recovery, supported by easing geopolitical pressures and a gap-up opening.
An analyst said that 22,700 now acts as immediate support, backed by OI build-up, while the 22,500–22,600 zone remains a critical demand area where buying is expected.
The broader market followed the upbeat sentiment, with the Nifty MidCap index rising 2.60 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap index gaining 2.63 per cent.
The pharma sector lagged, posting the smallest gains of the session. Analysts said the rally reflected improved investor confidence, driven by sectoral strength and easing global geopolitical risks.
A market expert added, “The recovery stems from moderated risk perception, as early signs of potential US–Iran de-escalation restored investor confidence.”
The Rupee weakened to 93.90, down 0.36 per cent, as persistent West Asia tensions and rising crude oil prices weighed on sentiment.
Analysts warned that higher oil costs could worsen India’s import outlook, keeping investors cautious despite the positive market momentum.
