Sensex, Nifty End Higher Despite Volatile Trade And Banking Weakness

Sensex and Nifty indices ended Wednesday’s highly volatile trading session with modest gains as buying in metal, oil, and gas shares offset weakness across banking, auto, and information technology counters.

The 30-share Sensex advanced 49.74 points, or 0.07 per cent, to settle at 74,608.98 after swinging sharply between an intra-day low of 74,134.48 and a high of 75,191.57.

The Nifty also closed in positive territory, rising 33.05 points, or 0.14 per cent, to finish at 23,412.60.

During the session, the benchmark moved between 23,262.55 and 23,582.95.

Analysts stated that the Nifty’s immediate support level remains positioned at 23,300, while 23,100 continues to hold substantial open interest concentration.

Experts further noted that the 23,500 mark has now emerged as a significant resistance zone after the market failed to sustain above it.

Among the leading gainers on the Nifty index were Asian Paints, Adani Enterprises, and Tata Steel, which supported the broader market despite persistent volatility.

Broader indices also ended higher, with the Nifty MidCap index climbing 0.77 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap index gaining 0.31 per cent.

Sectorally, metal, oil and gas, and consumer durable stocks outperformed, while IT, banking, auto, and media counters witnessed sharper declines.

Investors also monitored the scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding trade discussions and geopolitical developments linked to West Asia and Iran.
