Indian benchmark indices ended higher on Monday, snapping a four-session losing streak as gains across global markets improved investor sentiment and revived risk appetite.
The Sensex climbed 472.77 points, or 0.66%, to close at 72,382.47. The Nifty gained 133.80 points, or 0.6%, and settled at 22,555.75.
Market analysts said the Nifty tested the broken weekly 200-day simple moving average zone at 22,580–22,600 but failed to close above it.
They identified 22,600 as a key resistance level and 22,400 as immediate support.
A sustained close above 22,600 could push the index towards 22,800, while renewed selling could emerge if the index fails to break the resistance.
Analysts also highlighted 55,175 as a crucial level for the Bank Nifty.
Rising crude prices or a hawkish Reserve Bank of India policy stance could revive pressure on equities.
Global markets supported the domestic rebound as investors expected the US Federal Reserve to avoid faster rate hikes, easing concerns that had weighed on equities in recent sessions.
ITC, BSE and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles led gains among Nifty stocks. The Nifty MidCap index rose 0.67%, while the Nifty SmallCap index advanced 0.47%.
Consumer Durables and FMCG stocks outperformed, while Healthcare and Pharma indices lagged.
The rupee traded weak near 96.30 as investors turned cautious ahead of Wednesday’s RBI policy decision.
Analysts advised investors to focus on earnings visibility and accumulate selectively during declines rather than chase the rebound.
