Reliance Retail Unveils Global Expansion with 'Swadesh' Stores
Reliance Retail, a frontrunner in the country’s retail sector, has unveiled plans to take its Swadesh store, dedicated to showcasing traditional Indian art and craft, to international markets, starting with the US and Europe.
The inaugural Swadesh store, spanning 20,000 square feet, opened in Hyderabad and features a collection of over 400 handmade products, including textiles, handicrafts, and agricultural items with geographical indications. Reliance Retail has committed to sourcing these authentic crafted products directly from artisan communities, thanks to an agreement with the Ministry of Textiles.
Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, inaugurated the Hyderabad store and expressed Swadesh as an homage to India’s traditional arts and artisans. She emphasized its role in preserving and promoting the nation’s age-old crafts while highlighting the spirit of ‘Make in India.’ Ambani underscored Swadesh’s global aspirations, not only across India but also internationally in the US and Europe.
