Reliance Pledges Rs 75,000 Crore For North East; Targets Jobs, Connectivity, & Cancer Care Expansion

Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani on Friday announced a fresh investment of over Rs 75,000 crore in the North Eastern states over the next five years, aiming to boost employment, manufacturing, healthcare, and digital infrastructure.

Speaking at the ‘Rising North East Investors Summit 2025’, Mukesh Ambani said the investment will generate more than 2.5 million direct and indirect jobs.

“We aspire to touch the lives of most of our 45 million sisters and brothers in North-East,” he stated.

The company has already invested Rs 30,000 crore in the region over the past four decades.

Mukesh Ambani also revealed that Reliance Retail will step up efforts in the region by building factories for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and supporting local artisans and traditional crafts.

On the telecom front, Mukesh Ambani said Jio has already reached 90 per cent of the region’s population, with over 5 million 5G users.

“We will double this number this year,” he promised.

In a major push for clean energy, Reliance plans to build 350 integrated Compressed Biogas plants across the region, with the goal of transforming ‘Wasteland into Wealth-Land’.

Healthcare also emerged as a key focus.

“To begin with, we have established a 150-bed comprehensive cancer hospital in Manipur. We are collaborating with Mizoram University on care of breast cancer using genomic data. In Guwahati, we have built an Advanced Molecular Diagnostics and Research Lab. It will be among the largest Genome Sequencing Capacities in the India. We will help transform the North-East into a healthcare hub and a research powerhouse,” Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director noted.

On sports, the Reliance Foundation will work with all eight northeastern states to create Olympic Training Centres.

“These centres will help shape the next generation of Olympic medal-winners,” Mukesh Ambani further added.

The two-day Rising North East Investors Summit, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, aims to promote the North-East as a vibrant investment destination across various sectors, including infrastructure, tourism, IT, and agriculture.
