Paras Defence To Build India’s First Optics Park With Rs 12,000 Crore Investment

Paras Defence & Space Technologies Limited (Paras Defence) has pledged Rs 12,000 crore to establish India’s first Optics Park. The announcement, made at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, was in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra (GoM), signaling a major step toward India’s self-reliance in optics.

The Optics Park will become a cutting-edge hub, positioning India as a global leader in optical technologies for sectors like defense, space, and automotive. This ambitious project is expected to generate over 2,000 direct jobs, ranging from optics research and development to manufacturing.

The park will foster innovation in critical areas such as quantum communication, anti-drone technology, space exploration, and advanced medical applications. It will also support the entire lifecycle of optical technology development, from raw material production to system testing and assembly. An Academy for Optics & Allied Technologies will be set up to promote skill development and knowledge sharing.

Key Focus Areas: 1 Advanced Optical Technologies: Research on MEMS-based sensors, adaptive optics, and laser systems. 2 Optical Materials: Studies on vital materials like Germanium, Silicon, and Zinc Selenide, crucial for optical systems and space components. 3 Diverse Applications: Technologies for aerospace, defense, automotive, space, and medical sectors.

The Government of Maharashtra will provide full support, offering incentives and fast-tracking approvals to ensure the project’s smooth execution. Paras Defence’s strong international network and access to capital markets will further boost the park’s success.

Construction will begin in phases from 2028 to 2035. As it expands, the Optics Park will place India at the forefront of global optical advancements, reinforcing its drive for technological independence and enhancing its international influence in the optics sector.
