Operation Sindoor Highlights India’s Growing Self-Reliance In Defence Technology

India’s recent Operation Sindoor underscores the nation’s increasing self-reliance in defence technology, with indigenous systems playing a pivotal role, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chairman Samir V Kamat stated on Saturday.

Kamat proudly stated that the mission’s success was powered by homegrown systems, including Akash short- and medium-range surface-to-air missiles, BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, the D4 anti-drone system, airborne early warning and control platforms, the Akashteer air defence control system, and advanced C4I systems.

He also acknowledged the significant contributions of institutions like the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT).

Describing Operation Sindoor as ‘more than a military operation’, Kamat emphasised it as a declaration of India’s ability to stand tall through self-reliance, strategic foresight, and indigenous innovation.

He urged the graduating students to sustain this momentum, reminding them of India’s ambitious goal to become a developed nation and a global technology leader by 2047.

DIAT Graduates are the specialists in Critical Domains

Kamat highlighted that DIAT graduates are not generalists but specialists in critical domains such as quantum technology, cybersecurity, robotics, propulsion, missile systems, materials engineering, and artificial intelligence (AI).

These skills directly impact national security. In an increasingly unstable geopolitical climate, their expertise in developing hypersonic propulsion, stealth technologies, cyber defence, space deterrence, and AI-led combat systems will be vital.

Congratulating the graduating class, Kamat praised their perseverance and commitment, noting that they would be central to shaping India’s future defence capabilities.

Furthermore, he pointed out the rising demand for Indian defence exports across regions like the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa, underlining India’s expanding global defence footprint.

Operation Sindoor thus not only demonstrated the bravery of Indian soldiers along the western borders but also showcased the robust technological backbone supporting the mission. The blend of valour and advanced indigenous technology embodies India’s path towards self-reliance and strategic autonomy in defence.
