OpenAI Brings ChatGPT App to iOS Devices, While Apple Puts Restrictions on Its Use For Employees

OpenAI, the company responsible for the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT, declared its plan to release the ChatGPT app on the Apple Store for iOS users on May 18. They mentioned that the app will soon be accessible to Android users as well. Initially, the app’s launch will take place in the United States, with plans to extend availability to other countries in the following weeks.

OpenAI stated that the ChatGPT app is free and offers synchronization of users’ history across multiple devices. Additionally, the app incorporates Whisper, an open-source speech-recognition system, which allows users to input through voice commands.

Furthermore, ChatGPT Plus subscribers on iOS will receive exclusive access to the advanced capabilities of GPT-4, along with early access to new features and faster response times. In addition to this, OpenAI is advocating for the United States to contemplate the enforcement of licensing requirements for companies engaged in the development of potent artificial intelligence systems, similar to the underlying technology powering their chatbot. It is worth noting that ChatGPT Plus subscribers on iOS will also enjoy exclusive access to GPT-4’s capabilities, early feature access, and faster response times.

However, according to a document and sources cited by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, Apple Inc has imposed limitations on its employees’ access to ChatGPT and other external artificial intelligence tools. This decision comes as Apple works on developing comparable technology.

According to the report, Apple is expressing apprehension regarding the potential disclosure of sensitive information by its employees utilizing AI programs. Consequently, the company has advised its employees against employing Microsoft-owned GitHub’s Copilot, a tool that automates software code writing. OpenAI, the organization behind ChatGPT, recently announced the implementation of an “incognito mode” for ChatGPT. This mode ensures that users’ conversation history is neither stored nor utilized to enhance the model’s artificial intelligence capabilities.
