Indian stock markets started the special Muhurat Trading session in the green on Sunday, setting a positive tone for Samvat 2083, the new Hindu financial year.
When trading commenced at 02:20 PM, the BSE Sensex climbed approximately 250 points, while the NSE Nifty registered a gain of nearly 40 points.
The special trading window will run for 70 minutes, from 02:20 PM to 03:30 PM. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) is also operating during the same period.
The annual Muhurat session coincides with Diwali and Lakshmi Puja and holds traditional significance for investors.
Many consider purchasing shares during this period an auspicious way to begin the new financial year, with hopes of prosperity and wealth creation.
The positive opening followed a strong performance in the previous week, when domestic equities recorded their biggest weekly gains in nearly six years.
The Nifty advanced more than 8 per cent, while both benchmark indices completed seven consecutive sessions of gains.
Market analysts expect Indian equities to maintain a favourable long-term outlook in Samvat 2083, although returns could become more moderate and dependent on individual stocks.
Experts believe corporate earnings will play a greater role in driving market performance than further increases in valuations. They have advised investors to prioritise financially sound companies, consistent earnings and disciplined investment decisions.
Muhurat Trading is a shortened special market session held every Diwali. The occasion marks the beginning of Vikram Samvat, the Hindu calendar year followed by the Indian trading community, and traditionally associated with prosperity and new beginnings.
