Moving Ahead On The Path Of Self-Reliance, Adani Defense And Aerospace Inaugurates South Asia’s Largest Armament And Missile Complex

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), 26 February 2024: Adani Defense & Aerospace, India’s leading private sector defense manufacturer, today inaugurated two mega plants for the manufacturing of armaments and missiles, in a landmark achievement for India’s defense sector. These state-of-the-art plants, the first of their kind in the private sector in India, will significantly contribute to the country’s self-reliance and technological progress in the field of defence.

These huge plants of South Asia were inaugurated by Honorable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Yogi Adityanath, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey AVSM VSM SM ADC, GOC-in-C of Central Command Lieutenant General N.S. Raja Subramani PVSM AVSM SM VSM, Master General of Sustainment Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla UYSM YSM SM VSM in the presence of senior dignitaries from the Ministry of Defense and Government of Uttar Pradesh. He appreciated the efforts and contribution of Adani Defense in creating various capabilities towards strengthening the state and the country.

These plants were inaugurated on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Balakot air strike ‘Operation Bandar’, which was not only a historic operation of the Indian Air Force but also a testament to India’s strategic resolve in the face of external threats.

The Kanpur plant, spread over an area of 500 acres, is set to become one of the largest integrated armament manufacturing complexes. It is committed to producing high quality small, medium and large caliber ammunition for the armed forces, paramilitary forces and police. Production of small caliber ordnance has already begun at the plant, starting with an estimated 150 million rounds, 25% of India’s annual requirement.

Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath said, “This is a moment of great pride for the entire country. This plant will transform Uttar Pradesh into an industrial powerhouse and support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. This is a meaningful testament to our commitment. Adani Defense & Aerospace is credited with making the largest investment in the Uttar Pradesh Defense Corridor, which will play a vital role in developing a vibrant defense ecosystem. Operations have started within 18 months of land allotment. This is extremely encouraging. It will be a moment of great pride for all of us when the warheads and missiles produced at these plants will help protect the nation.”

Emphasizing the need for self-reliance in missiles and armament, Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pandey AVSM VSM SM ADC said, “Recent geopolitical events emphasize the need for armaments to prepare for a protracted conflict. Reliable supply from internal sources is the most important need of the hour. This initiative of Adani Defense and Aerospace for such a huge investment and indigenization of critical technologies will serve to instill confidence among the users on Indian private industry for strategic military supplies. The complex is a major achievement in India’s journey towards self-reliance in the defense sector.”

Adani Defense and Aerospace is the flagship defense company of Adani Group. It also focuses on developing and introducing unique capabilities in the unmanned segment, counter drones, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance technologies and cyber defence.

The operations of the armament complex come less than two years after the Adani Group announced the plants during the Uttar Pradesh Investors Summit in 2022. The Industry 4.0 plant incorporates state-of-the-art automation using Artificial Intelligence and data analytics ensuring the highest standards in quality, safety and reliability. Furthermore, being a PESO certified complex, it will also have explosive handling facilities for missiles and precision-guided weapons.
