On Wednesday, equity benchmark indices ended in the positive territory, owing to purchasing in HDFC Bank and a generally robust trend in Asian markets.
The BSE Sensex climbed 100.26 points or 0.15 percent to conclude at 65,880.52. It had fallen 292.23 points or 0.44 percent, during the day to 65,488.03.
The Nifty rose 36.15 points or 0.18 percent to close at 19,611.05.
Among the major gainers on the Sensex were Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Titan, ITC, UltraTech Cement, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
The major laggards were Tata Steel, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, NTPC, and ICICI Bank.
In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong finished up, while Seoul closed lower.
European stock exchanges were trading lower.
On Tuesday, the US markets ended in red.
Brent crude fell 0.70 percent to USD 89.41 a barrel.
According to the exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold securities worth Rs 1,725.11 crore on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the BSE benchmark rose 152.12 points or 0.23 percent to 65,780.26. The Nifty gained 46.10 points or 0.24 percent to close at 19,574.90.
