Markets Open Higher: Sensex, Nifty Gain As Oil Prices Ease, Global Sentiment Improves

Domestic equity benchmarks opened on a firm note on Tuesday, tracking softer crude prices and improving sentiment linked to potential diplomatic progress between the United States and Iran.

The BSE Sensex gained around 445 points, or 0.56 per cent, touching an intraday high near 78,966. The Nifty 50, however, rose 118 points, or 0.48 per cent, to trade above the 24,400 mark in early deals.

Buying was visible across a broad set of sectors, particularly in real estate, banking, metals, consumer durables and chemicals.

Indices tracking these segments recorded moderate gains, with realty and private banks leading the upward move.

In contrast, select heavyweights such as Infosys, TCS and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories lagged. Their decline weighed slightly on the broader rally.

Wider market participation remained strong, as mid-cap and small-cap indices outperformed the headline benchmarks, indicating continued risk appetite among investors.

Market sentiment received a lift from reports suggesting Iran may consider joining fresh talks with the United States, with Pakistan playing a mediating role. This development coincided with a decline in global oil prices, easing inflationary concerns.

On the institutional front, foreign investors remained cautious. Data showed foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the previous session, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) provided support through steady buying.

Analysts expect markets to remain broadly steady. They cautioned that elevated volatility and resistance levels could limit sharp upside moves in the near term.

In commodities, Brent Crude slipped below $95 per barrel, while WTI Crude declined more sharply, reflecting easing supply concerns.

Globally, US markets ended slightly lower. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite posted modest losses after recent gains, as uncertainty around geopolitical developments persisted.

Asian equities presented a mixed picture. Japan’s Nikkei 225, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index and South Korea’s KOSPI moved higher, while indices in China and Indonesia traded in negative territory.
