Equity benchmark indices rose in early trade on Monday, boosted by a surge in the US markets and significant buying in Kotak Mahindra Bank.
The 30-share BSE Sensex soared 328.54 points to 74,206.69 in early trade. The NSE Nifty moved 93.45 points to 22,569.30.
Kotak Mahindra Bank, ABB India, Britannia Industries, TCS, IndusInd Bank, Marico, Infosys, Siemens, DLF, ICICI Bank, and SRF were the top gainers.
Among the laggards were Power Finance Corp, RECL, Titan, Canara Bank, PNB, Bank Of Baroda, and Adani Ports.
In Asian markets, Shanghai, Malaysia, and Taiwan were trading in the green, while Tokyo, Gift Nifty, Hong Kong, and South Korea were trading in the red.
US markets concluded with significant gains on Friday.
Brent crude gained 0.23 percent to USD 83.15 per barrel.
According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold securities worth Rs 2,391.98 crore on Friday.
On Friday, the Sensex dipped 732.96 points or 0.98 percent to 73,878.15, while the Nifty sank 172.35 points or 0.76 percent to 22,475.85.
