King Charles’s Wealth Rises to £640 Million, Matches Sunak-Murty Fortune Amid Billionaire Decline
King Charles III has seen a substantial increase in his personal fortune, according to The Sunday Times Rich List 2025, with his wealth rising by £30 million to £640 million.
This boost places him on equal footing with former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty, both also valued at £640 million.
The King now ranks 258th, up 20 places from last year.
However, the list also reveals a broader trend of wealth contraction among the UK’s richest.
The number of billionaires in Britain has fallen from 165 in 2024 to 156 this year – the most significant decline since the Rich List began 37 years ago.
This year’s combined wealth of those listed stands at £772.8 billion, down 3% from the previous edition.
Among the new notable entries on the 2025 Rich List are Charlotte Tilbury, the renowned beauty entrepreneur with an estimated wealth of £350 million, and Ellen DeGeneres, the American television host who relocated to the Cotswolds last year, although her exact valuation was not disclosed.
A standout success story comes from Tom and Phil Beahon, founders of the premium sportswear brand Castore, who debuted at joint 345th on the list with a fortune of £350 million.
Their brand, now worth over £1 billion, supplies kits for England’s cricket and rugby teams.
Rob Watts, the list’s compiler, remarked that this year’s Rich List was one of the most challenging to compile due to global trade tensions, Donald Trump’s tariffs, and Labour’s crackdown on non-domiciled tax status, which prompted several wealthy individuals to leave the UK.
Despite these economic headwinds, the 2025 edition remains a revealing snapshot of changing fortunes, entrepreneurial resilience, and the political undercurrents shaping Britain’s financial elite.
