Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has earned two major recognitions for its innovation and intellectual property achievements.
The Government of India honored the company with the National Intellectual Property Award, while the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presented Jio with a trophy for outstanding contributions in technology and innovation.
The awards were presented by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal during a ceremony held in New Delhi.
Over the past three years, Jio has filed over 4,000 patents globally, with a majority focusing on telecommunications, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence.
These innovations largely revolve around the development of 5G, 6G, and related tech – areas traditionally dominated by foreign firms.
The scale of Jio’s patent activity signals the rise of Indian players on the global tech stage.
Accepting the award on behalf of Jio, Ayush Bhatnagar, Senior Vice President at JPL, said, “These awards are a testament to our commitment to innovation. We are not just working on technologies; we are developing capabilities that will play a significant role in national development through 5G, 6G and global competitions.”
The Indian government is however pushing forward with its 6G mission, and Jio is playing a leading role in this effort.
In a statement, the company noted that its intellectual property strategy supports India’s ‘Developed India 2047’ vision – an initiative to make the country self-reliant and technologically advanced through innovation and digital transformation.
