Jeong Chul-dong Pledges To Boost OLED Price Competitiveness Against China’s LCD Surge

LG Display Chief Executive Officer Jeong Chul-dong has vowed to address China’s rapid rise in the liquid crystal display (LCD) sector by enhancing the price competitiveness of the company’s premium organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels.

Jeong made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Las Vegas on the sidelines of CES 2026, sharing his observations on the growing presence and progress of Chinese technology firms at the global exhibition.

Jeong said Chinese companies have made significant advances in LCD resolution and cost efficiency as they seek to close the gap with OLED technology. He noted that competition in the global display market has intensified considerably as a result.

Despite this, the LG Display CEO stressed that OLED panels continue to outperform LCDs in terms of technological superiority. He added that the company will remain focused on lowering OLED production costs to better compete with budget-friendly LCD alternatives from Chinese rivals.

Jeong explained that reducing costs would allow LG Display to supply more competitively priced OLED panels to its clients, enabling them to launch affordable premium products.

OLED televisions are seen as premium products, but their higher prices often push consumers towards cheaper LCD options.

The CEO said LG Display will use artificial intelligence to streamline operations and ensure long-term profitability.

The company earlier reported an accumulated operating profit of 348.5 billion won for January–September, signalling a possible first annual turnaround since 2021.

Looking ahead, Jeong said LG Display will also target emerging sectors such as humanoid robots, leveraging its automotive display expertise and flexible P-OLED technology for advanced designs.
