Jeffrey Sachs Highlights Role Of Scale And Investment In Clean Energy Growth

Renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs placed strong emphasis on scale and decisive action while addressing The Economist’s Resilient Futures Summit on Energy in New Delhi. He asserted that large-scale investments in clean energy will determine global leadership in the coming decades.

Sachs highlighted that nations and corporations that move early and invest aggressively will gain critical advantages. They will learn faster, reduce costs, and establish dominance in emerging energy systems.

In this context, Sachs pointed to Adani Group as a significant player whose actions carry far greater weight than commonly perceived. He further projected that India could witness a remarkable economic transformation by 2047.

Sachs stated that the country may surpass the United States to become the world’s second-largest economy.

While government policy will provide the framework, Sachs stressed that large industrial groups such as Adani will play a decisive role in building this future.

Addressing climate challenges, Sachs criticised the global community for prolonged inaction. He remarked that despite three decades of discussion on decarbonisation, tangible progress remains insufficient.

The Renowned economist warned that the world continues to move beyond the 1.5°C to 2°C threshold without a coherent strategy.

Sachs observed that companies already advancing in clean energy are setting the pace, while others remain confined to rhetoric. He emphasised that those who act decisively today will secure long-term advantages, whereas those who delay will miss opportunities.

Jeffrey Sachs’ remarks reinforced the importance of scale, urgency, and industrial leadership in shaping both climate outcomes and economic trajectories.
