India’s Forex Reserves Jump $14.36 Billion To Record High Of $723.77 Billion

India’s foreign exchange reserves climbed sharply by $14.361 billion in the week ending January 30, hitting an all-time high of $723.774 billion. The surge comes despite continuing global economic uncertainties and reflects strong strategic management by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

In the previous week, reserves had risen by $8.053 billion.

The RBI reported that gold reserves, a major component of India’s forex holdings, increased by $14.595 billion to $137.683 billion. This rise in gold values contributed significantly to the overall record level of reserves.

Foreign Currency Assets (FCA), the largest part of India’s reserves, declined marginally by $493 million to $562.392 billion.

FCA includes several key global currencies such as the US dollar, yen, euro, and pound, with values calculated in US dollars.

Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) increased by $216 million to $18.953 billion during the same period.

India’s reserve position with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also rose slightly by $44 million to $4.746 billion.

India remains the world’s largest recipient of remittances, which reached $135.4 billion in FY25. These inflows continue to support stability in the country’s external account.

Additionally, India attracted sizeable gross investment inflows in FY25, accounting for 18.5 per cent of GDP, even amid global financial tightening.

Experts note that a potential India–US trade agreement could further strengthen India’s medium-term economic growth and external stability.

Greater market access and tariff certainty are expected to support exports, encourage manufacturing investment, and boost foreign direct investment inflows.

Export-oriented sectors with significant exposure to the US are particularly well-positioned to benefit.

The record surge in forex reserves, combined with strong remittances and investment inflows, demonstrates India’s resilience to global uncertainties. These developments reinforce the country’s external stability and provide a solid foundation for sustained economic growth.
