Indian Stock Market Enters Consolidation Phase As Nifty, Sensex Extend Losses

Indian equity markets are entering a consolidation phase, characterised by heightened volatility and limited directional clarity, according to market specialists.

Benchmarks on Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex ended the shortened trading week on a muted note, reflecting persistent uncertainty.

The Nifty declined by 0.47 per cent, while the Sensex also closed in negative territory, extending losses for a sixth consecutive week.

Despite subdued headline performance, analysts observed an underlying shift in market behaviour.

Hariprasad K of Livelong Wealth stated that the market is transitioning into a consolidation zone, supported by domestic inflows and technical cushions. He cautioned that external variables, including crude oil movements and geopolitical tensions, will continue to steer sentiment.

Experts noted that the broader structure remains delicate but does not conclusively bearish.

The 22,500 mark serves as immediate support, while the 22,900-23,000 band acts as a strong resistance zone due to persistent selling pressure.

Unless indices sustain above this range, the near-term strategy is likely to remain ‘sell on rise’.

Ajit Mishra of Religare Broking highlighted that volatility is primarily driven by global developments.

Tensions involving the United States and Iran have kept crude oil prices elevated. This poses a risk for India, which relies heavily on imports.

Rising oil prices may influence inflation, currency stability, and overall investor sentiment.

Market participants now expect the upcoming week to remain data-heavy, with both domestic indicators and global triggers shaping market direction.
