HP Strengthens India Focus With Local Manufacturing And AI Innovation

HP plans to expand its presence in India by boosting local manufacturing and developing AI-based software features.

CEO Enrique Lores outlined this strategy at the Amplify conference in Nashville, Tennessee. He emphasized India’s role as a key market for HP, both in terms of sales and talent.

“India is the second country in the world where we have the most employees, many of them focused on software development,” Lores said.

HP aims to integrate these software capabilities into its global product portfolio.

HP Expands Local Manufacturing In India

HP already leads India’s PC market, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).

Last year, HP partnered with Dixon Technologies to manufacture laptops and desktops under the government’s ‘Make in India’ scheme.

“In India, regulations require products to be built locally. We adopted these regulations a few months ago. April will mark the first month when our new factory begins producing notebooks,” Lores said.

Manufacturing in India will allow HP to reduce costs and offer products at competitive prices.

This move also helps HP diversify its supply chain and reduce dependence on China amid rising geopolitical tensions.

AI And Market Expansion Strategy

HP sees India as a major growth market for AI-integrated PCs, especially for commercial clients and small businesses.

Lores said AI adoption in India remains low, offering significant growth potential.

HP also plans to explore localized AI models for India, similar to its projects in Spain and Saudi Arabia.

“We are developing country-specific AI models that reflect local culture. This could have a lot of potential in India,” Lores added.

HP’s focus on India reflects the broader trend of tech companies shifting away from Chinese manufacturing due to geopolitical risks and trade tariffs.

HP’s strategy combines cost savings with deeper market penetration, positioning it for long-term growth in India.
