Goldman Sachs Expands Women Entrepreneur Programme With IIM-L & IIM Ahmedabad

Goldman Sachs has broadened its ‘10,000 Women’ initiative in India by partnering with the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow’s Enterprise Incubation Centre (IIM-L EIC) and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

These two prestigious institutions will join the existing partnership with IIM Bangalore’s NSRCEL to provide women entrepreneurs with business education, mentoring, networking opportunities, and access to capital.

The expanded programme aims to graduate 1,000 women entrepreneurs in India over the next year and increase the overall number of participants from the current 3,800 to 10,000 by 2033.

This growth aligns with India’s long-term vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, which seeks inclusive economic development and increased participation of women in the country’s growth story.

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs

Sonjoy Chatterjee, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs’ India operations, expressed his commitment, “We are doubling our commitment to women entrepreneurs in India. By widening our partnerships with India’s premier business schools, we will deliver a powerful combination of education, mentorship, and networks to help these entrepreneurs become pillars of India’s growth.”

Professor Bharat Bhasker, Director of IIM Ahmedabad, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, noting that it addresses structural barriers women entrepreneurs face, particularly in accessing capital and professional networks.

“By combining our academic expertise with the global reach of this initiative, we aim to foster an ecosystem that promotes innovation, drives growth, and empowers women to scale their businesses and lead in the Indian economy,” he said.

Similarly, Professor MP Gupta, Director of IIM Lucknow, emphasised the broader impact, “Promoting female entrepreneurship in India is not just about breaking barriers but creating a ripple effect that inspires future generations. Our partnership with Goldman Sachs is dedicated to boosting women’s entrepreneurship through this targeted initiative, dismantling obstacles, and building a supportive environment for women-led ventures to thrive.”

The Economic Case for Women’s Participation

Goldman Sachs’ India Womenomics research highlights that favourable demographics will uniquely benefit India over the next two decades.

However, realising this potential requires increasing women’s labour force participation, which remains lower than in other major economies.

Creating employment opportunities for women entrepreneurs is key to harnessing this demographic advantage.

With this expansion, the ‘10,000 Women’ initiative aims not only to support individual entrepreneurs but also to strengthen India’s overall economic fabric by promoting gender-inclusive growth.

The partnership between Goldman Sachs and leading Indian academic institutions represents a significant step towards empowering women and realising India’s vision of a developed, inclusive economy by 2047.
