Gautam Adani, CM Suvendu Adhikari Lay Foundation Stone For 2,000-Bed Hospital In Kolkata

Gautam Adani and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari laid the foundation stone for the Adani Arogya Mandir, a proposed 2,000-bed hospital and medical college in New Town near Kolkata.

The Adani Group has committed more than Rs 4,000 crore to the healthcare project.

Gautam Adani said the not-for-profit medical institution will include a medical college along with advanced research and healthcare facilities.

Of its 2,000 beds, 1,000 will cater to economically weaker sections eligible under state and central health insurance schemes.

The project is expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs across the healthcare ecosystem.

Speaking at the foundation stone ceremony, Gautam Adani said the group’s commitment to West Bengal extends beyond healthcare and includes investments across several sectors. He announced plans to invest more than Rs 1 lakh crore in the state by 2035.

The proposed investment will cover ports, logistics, power generation, transmission and distribution, roads, bridges, ropeways, green cement and hyperscale data centres.

Gautam Adani described West Bengal as an important maritime and logistics link between India’s industrial heartland, the Northeast and the Bay of Bengal. He highlighted the state’s potential to connect with trade routes extending into Southeast Asia.

Alongside industrial and healthcare investments, Gautam Adani said the group would support initiatives linked to Kolkata’s cultural heritage. These, however, include the restoration of the historic Writers’ Building, the revitalisation of Kumartuli Ghat and efforts to showcase the city’s Durga Puja traditions globally.

Gautam Adani said development should preserve Bengal’s cultural heritage and institutions.

The New Town project will combine healthcare, medical education and research.

The announcement is part of Adani Group’s broader investment plans for West Bengal through 2035.
