Adani Group To Invest Rs 1 Lakh Crore In West Bengal By 2035, Says Gautam Adani

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Thursday said that the group plans to invest more than Rs 1,00,000 crore in West Bengal by 2035.

The proposed spending will cover ports, logistics, electricity generation and distribution, highways, roads, bridges, data centres and other infrastructure.

The Adani Group Chairman shared the plan at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for Adani Arogya Mandir, a proposed 2,000-bed hospital in New Town, on Kolkata’s northern outskirts.

Gautam Adani said infrastructure helps attract investment and described West Bengal as the group’s ‘Karambhumi’ in eastern India. He said the group regarded the state as more than a place to invest, adding, “For me and my group, West Bengal is the place which we want to serve and belong to.”

Gautam Adani said the group would commit Rs 4,000 crore to the hospital, which will function on a non-profit basis.

The hospital will reserve half of its 2,000 beds for economically disadvantaged families and provide them with free treatment.

The Adani Group plans to expand the facility into a medical hub that will include a medical college and a research centre.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari welcomed the attendance of Adani and his family, saying their presence reflected their commitment to West Bengal. He described the occasion as historic and said the healthcare project would create jobs.

CM Adhikari criticised the state’s earlier Communist and Trinamool Congress administrations, accusing them of focusing on ‘dole politics and appeasement politics’. He called on the Adani Group to help expand the state’s industrial base and strengthen its economy.
