Gautam Adani Announces Rs 1 Lakh Crore West Bengal Investment Plan; Calls Bengal His ‘Second Karmabhoomi’

Industrialist Gautam Adani has announced plans to deploy more than Rs 1 lakh crore across West Bengal over the coming decade, covering infrastructure, energy, logistics, green cement and data centres.

Speaking at the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata on September 24, Gautam Adani said the eastern region must emerge as a new centre of economic activity. He described Bengal as essential to India’s ambition of becoming a developed nation and highlighted its links to industrial states, the Northeast and markets across Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific.

The proposed investment will include ports, power generation and distribution, roads, bridges, ropeways and hyperscale data centres.

The Adani Group Chairman announced the Adani Arogya Mandir, a proposed 2,000-bed medical institute in New Town. Half of its beds will be reserved for people unable to afford quality healthcare.

The group will support the revitalisation of Kumartuli Ghat, a curated Durga Puja programme showcasing Bengal’s artists, and conservation work at the historic Writers’ Building.

Gautam Adani paid tribute to Bengal’s industrialists, entrepreneurs and traders, saying their commitment had helped sustain the state through changing economic conditions. He cited the state’s intellectual and cultural legacy, including figures such as Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Rabindranath Tagore.

The Adani Group Chairman said businesses must invest before infrastructure shortages constrain growth. He cited the group’s experience in developing data centres, acquiring Haifa Port in Israel and creating an integrated logistics network connecting 15 Indian ports with roads, railways, warehouses and industrial facilities.

Gautam Adani pointed to the Mundra port and Khavda renewable energy park as examples of infrastructure ecosystems built through long-term planning. He said he hoped Bengal would become his ‘Second Karmabhoomi’, while developing its own strengths and identity. He closed by invoking Tagore’s vision of a fearless, enlightened India and said, ‘Jai Hind’.
