DGCA Confirms IndiGo Has Cleared All Refunds For December Flight Cancellations

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday confirmed that IndiGo has processed all refunds. The airline cleared refunds for flights cancelled between 3 and 5 December 2025.

The airline told the aviation watchdog that it credited the refunds to passengers’ original payment methods.

The DGCA also stated that passengers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure can claim additional compensation, where applicable.

IndiGo has launched a ‘Gesture of Care’ (GoC) programme to support passengers affected by the December cancellations.

Under this initiative, eligible passengers will receive two travel vouchers worth Rs 5,000 each, totalling Rs 10,000. The vouchers are valid for up to 12 months.

The airline said passengers qualify for the GoC if it cancelled their flights or delayed them by more than three hours between 3 and 5 December.

Passengers should check their eligibility and submit their details. They must provide accurate contact information, including mobile number and email address, at the time of booking.

IndiGo faced widespread disruption from 3–5 December, leaving tens of thousands of passengers stranded across the country.

The airline attributed the cancellations to poor pilot roster planning and its failure to meet the tighter safety regulations introduced that year.

In a statement, IndiGo acknowledged the disruption, saying, “The operating environment presented periods of industry-wide challenges, including our major operational disruption from 3–5 December 2025, which regrettably impacted our valued customers. We profusely apologise for this.”

The airline further added that it is actively strengthening its operational processes and resilience to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

Following the disruptions, the government closely monitored IndiGo’s operations. It also scrutinised the airline to ensure it issued refunds and compensation promptly.

IndiGo has announced that it has cleared all pending refunds.

The launch of the GoC programme marks a significant step in addressing passenger grievances from the December fiasco.
